Greetings from Barcelona! There is a lot to be excited about this week at Mobile World Congress – we will reveal new technology on the world’s first smart liquor bottle, our CEO will deliver a visionary keynote address, and our CSO will join industry leaders in a discussion on industry-led mobile innovation.
In case you missed it, last week we announced a collaboration with the company behind some of your favorite alcohol beverages, including Johnnie Walker, Don Julio, Kettle One and Guinness, to build the bottle for a new digital generation. The iconic JOHNNIE WALKER BLUE LABEL® “smart bottle” prototype will incorporate Thinfilm’s new OpenSense technology and it will be showcased here at Mobile World Congress.
Through OpenSense technology, Diageo will be able to dynamically send relevant content and messaging directly to consumers, all with the simple tap of an NFC-enabled smartphone. OpenSense tags can detect the bottle’s “sealed” and “open” states, allowing Diageo to send messages at the right time and in the right context.
Additionally, every OpenSense tag has a unique identifier, which can also be used for brand authentication. For Diageo, this unique form of permission-based mobile marketing (user-initiated engagement) will completely change the role of a bottle in the consumer experience.
The JOHNNIE WALKER BLUE LABEL® Smart Bottle prototype along with other live demos, will be on dislpay at our booth at Innovation Norway Pavilion, which is located in Hall 67 (Stand 6H20).
